DIY Spa Day at Home

If you’re like me and haven’t been to an actual spa since before covid or just don’t have the time or the money for a professional treatment, don’t worry! There are so many ways to create your own spa-like experience right at home with just a few simple ingredients and some TLC.

If you spend most days working or chasing kids around the house (or both), there are definite benefits to spending even just 20 minutes on yourself and your self-care. Something as simple as putting on a comfy robe, taking a bath or lighting a candle can change your mood rather quickly.

Here are some tips for how to get that spa feeling at home:

  • Give yourself a facial. There's nothing like a good facial to make you feel relaxed and refreshed — and they not only feel amazing, they’re also great for your skin! The first step in your at home facial should always be a clean face. Use a gentle cleanser to remove impurities and wash away dirt and oils. Next, I recommend applying a good skincare mask. This is especially amazing for busy moms or working women who don’t have a lot of time to add extra steps into their skincare routine. Most masks can be washed off with warm water after 10 minutes and will leave your skin smooth and soft. Apply your favorite moisturizer and you’ll feel like you just walked out of your favorite spa. This is an easy quick and easy routine to turn dull looking skin into glowing skin and can be done in minutes!
  • Exfoliate! This is one of my favorites and can be done pretty quickly with instant results. Choose a cleansing and exfoliating scrub that's right for your skin type, and use it to give yourself a gentle facial massage. After washing with warm water, your skin should be super smooth! If you’re feeling adventurous, follow up with a hydrating mask and you'll be feeling refreshed in no time. Finish off your routine with your favorite moisturizer and you’re all set.
  • Try a DIY mani/pedi. A little pampering for your hands and feet is always a welcome treat. I don’t know about you, but my hands have been extra dry lately because of extra hand washing. Taking an extra few minutes to massage some hand lotion is an easy way to add some self-care into your routine. Take it one step further by adding some polish — it always makes me feel better to have a fresh coat of nail polish on!
  • Take a relaxing bath! Ok, admittedly, this one will require a bit more time than the others. If you can find the time without interruption from the kinds (or better yet, have a babysitter) - do it! Turn your thoughts off during this time and set the mood with an essential oil diffuser or candle and some calm music. You can find great spa music on Spotify or any other streaming app. Add in a bath bomb or your favorite body scrub and enjoy your kid-free, stress-free self-care time.

Whether you’re a single mom, working mom or stay at home mom, it’s ok to take a little time for yourself. Taking even 20 minutes for some alone time (I will admit to locking myself in the bathroom at times to achieve this) can go a long way in supporting your mental health. With these tips, you can help yourself feel relaxed and rejuvenated in the comfort of your own home. Give one of them a try the next time you need a little self-care!
